Spring flows freely from a pipe installed in the middle a city parking lot. It may look grim, but it's actually pretty cool. See the photos.
The person who took us said that the water from this spot had been tested and was found to have a one million year age. Wow. It was delicious and tastes very minerally. Here is a excerpt from the Olympia Wikipedia entry: Jefferson Street Well: This is the current, publicly accessible well at the corner of Jefferson Street Street and State Street. It is available because of an agreement between the Thurston Co. PUD, City of Olympia, Diamond Parking, and the property owner. According to the agreement, the PUD will test the water well to ensure it conforms with drinking water guidelines. The City of Olympia will pay for the testing. This agreement is only temporary and the property is currently for sale. [3] The testing was previously paid for by Friends of Artesians. Friends of Artesians tried to find a permanent solution to this well-related problem but failed. They disbanded the group and wrote an anonymous letter to the Mayor, City Council, and Mayor. This letter was published in WORKS IN PROGRESS. Friends of Artesians provided the human consumption testing of the well. Their dissolution left the testing question unresolved. This could have meant that public access to the well might be denied. [5] A group consisting of citizens created "It’s Still the Water" to advocate for public access. This led to the current agreement. [6] Members and supporters of "It's Still The Water", realized that they had to create a non profit organization in order to pursue the long-term goal for permanent access to artesian water wells. The group is now known as H2Olympia, Artesian Well Advocates. [7]
