Blue Lagoon is located on Grindavik's lava fields. It is situated on the Reykjanes Peninsula near a geothermal power source, Svartsengi. It is easily one of Iceland’s most famous tourist attractions. This place is a must-see if you are a fan hot mineral water. For all day visits, you must pre-book!
Blue Lagoon has one of the best hot springs pools in the world. The high silica content is responsible for the crazy blue hue of the milky water. All bathers are welcome to use the Silica mud mask, which whitens their faces.
The temperature in the soaking pool averages between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius (99 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit). Children under 9 years old must wear complimentary pool floaters. Children under 14 years of age can join their adult for free. Before entering, guests should shower. You can wear your own clothes. A ramp is available for wheelchair users.
The pool's deepest area is approximately 1.4m (4.7ft). The pool's shallowest section is only 0.8 meters (2.6 ft). All guests must book tickets in advance. The entry fee includes a towel, a mud mask and your first drink. A sauna and steam room are available in addition to the pools.
The In-Water Bar is available as well as the Mask Bar. There is a refreshing selection on the bar of soft drinks and beer as well as wine, beer, smoothies, and juices. The Mask Bar features both an Algae or Silica Mud mask. This mask deep cleans the skin and stimulates collagen production.
Water Source - The Blue Lagoon is stocked with natural mineral water, which comes from volcanic aquifers that are 2000m under the ground. It has both freshwater and seawater. The skin is strengthened by silica, algae and salt-rich water.
Although the water is not a product of the local geothermal power station, it is. Superheated water from below is used to drive turbines that generate electricity. The water is then heated to heat a municipal water heating unit. After that, the water flows into a lagoon. Each 40 hour, the Blue Lagoon water renews itself.
The all-natural water has a pH of 7.5 and a 2.5% salt content. It does not contain any bacteria other than fecal, environmental, or fungi. It is self-cleansing. It has been given a Blue Flag more than a ten-year-old.
History - Hot spring pools were formed by runoff from the power station that was opened in 1976. One patient with psoriasis soaked in one in 1981, and noted that it helped his symptoms. There were facilities opened in 1987, and the popularity of bathing in them grew. Blue Lagoon was established in 1992. A psoriasis clinic was established in 1994. Blue Lagoon released their own line in skin care products one year later. It contained silica, salt, and algae.
Retreat Spa offers many beauty treatments and massage therapies. The in-water massage is the most therapeutic of all the treatments at Retreat Spa. They last between 30 and 60 minutes, while 120 minutes are the norm. The Steam Cave offers a steamy chamber with moist heat in an earthen box and also has a sauna.
At the Blue Lagoon, there are four options for dining. Reservations are strongly recommended for Lava- and Moss-themed restaurants.
Blue Cafe – A great place to grab some snacks and get away from the sea. It offers beautiful views of the lagoon. The hours are from 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM.
Moss Restaurant – This 2019 Michelin Guide restaurant recommendation is a must-visit. The menu features a mix of classic Icelandic dishes. The resort's highest point, Moss, offers spectacular views of the volcanic horizon.
Lava Restaurant offers a delicious dining experience along the Blue Lagoon shores. This casual fine dining restaurant serves lunch from 11:15AM until dinner at 9 PM. You can dine here in your robe until 4:00PM.
Spa Restaurant – Spa guests can also dine in the Spa Restaurant away from the crowds. The Spa Restaurant offers both an A-la-carte breakfast and an all-day menu. They are open from 7:30AM until 10:00PM.
