Description

Chuckle Springs offers a unique trip for a 3-mile hike. The trail runs close to the river and through moist old growth forest. Douglas fir dominates the dry areas along the trail, while Western redcedar towers above the moist trailside pools. It's great water!

Public Drinking Spring

Enjoy delicious water
This three-site, tent-only campground is surrounded in Douglas-fir.
It is located along a 500-foot round trip loop trail that leads to the springs, which are named after the camp. Interpretive signs provide information about the historical Oregon Central Military Wagon Road, which passes right near the campground, and the role that the Bull trout plays in the local watershed ecosystem. Forest Road 21 allows for easy access to the Middle Fork Trail by hikers, off-road bikers, and equestrians.

This beautiful spring is located close to Oakridge, Oregon. Only limited camping is available. The spring offers short hiking trails.
You will find the intersection of Crestview St and Oregon State Highway 58 Oakridge. (The only traffic light Oakridge has on Highway 58) Continue east on 58 approximately 2 miles to Hills Creek Road/Kitson Springs Road. Turn left and continue for 0.5 mile to Forest Road 21. Follow Forest Road 21 south for approximately 28.5 mile, and you will find the destination on your right.

Free Hot Spring

This spring is on the opposite side to the North Umpqua River from the Umpqua Hot Springs. Two trails lead from the parking lot to the hotsprings, and one leads to the spring. It's a short, easy hike along the road that leads to a large spring. You will find mossy logs all around the spring, with well-used paths leading to collection points. One local said that this spring was the most fresh water available. This water is not available for testing, but I tried it out and enjoyed 8 gallons.

Free Hot Spring

McCredie hot springs is 50 miles from Eugene and eight miles east of Oakridge. There are several hot spring-fed pools located adjacent to the Willamette Highway on either side of Salt Creek. The season determines the number of silt-bottomed, shallower and wider pools that are suitable for soaking.
It is well-known that pool temperatures can fluctuate. Before you dive in, make sure to use a thermometer!
McCredie was a former location of a resort and baseball team. McCredie is within the Willamette National Forest's boundaries, on the north and south banks Salt Creek (a Willamette Rivertributary).
On-site is a small, paved parking lot with a toilet. McCredie hot springs can be visited for free and are only available for day-use. You can wear clothing, but nighttime closures are required.
