Description
Alcove Springs, a popular stop on the Oregon Trail in Marshall County Kansas was near Independence Crossing. Named by travelers on the trail, the springs were given their name. The name 'Alcove Springs’ was carved into the limestone cliff by travelers, along with the names of those who had passed by the spring. The spring is situated in a national park, approximately four miles north from Blue Rapids.
