Stotan Falls is the largest waterfall along Vancouver Island's Puntledge River. The falls have a total drop of about 60 feet but no individual part of the falls, which consist of alternating ledges and slides, is taller than 15 feet. The majority of the volume of the Puntledge River has been diverted for hydroelectric generation just downstream of Comox Lake, which reduces the volume of the river significantly during the summer months. A fish ladder has been blasted into the bedrock up the middle of the falls to aid in improving fish spawning grounds but has altered the flow of the river during the summer such that very little water flows over the natural bedrock formations. The falls are located on privately owned land and as of January 2019 is closed to all public access.
