Corriente de Piedra Bolada is the stream that drains a small catch basin in Mexico's scenic Copper Canyon, or Barranca del Cobre in its native tongue. The stream flows through a hanging valley then drops nearly 1500 feet to the depths of Cañon Candameña in the rugged Chihuahuan highlands. The falls are commonly incorrectly spelled "Volada" instead of Bolada. The name is properly associated with the stream, as well as a nearby town, and a round shaped rock formation near the falls. The commonly and incorrectly used name "Piedra Volada" translates more closely to "a stone being thrown in the air" and doesn't make sense in the context of the name of the waterfall.
