Gjerdefossen can be most easily seen from boats on the Geirangerfjorden. Tourist ferries run several times daily between Geiranger and Hellesylt which afford excellent views of the falls. The falls can also be distantly seen from the town of Geiranger and from viewpoints along Route 63 (such as the Flydalsjuvet viewpoint). A third option is to hike and unmarked trail from the Ornevegan viewpoint along Route 63 as it climbs out of Geirangerfjorden towards Eidsdalen. The trail leads to a spectacular viewpoint near the top of the falls that serves as a better view of the fjord than the falls, but is also the most intimate view of the falls possible.Gjerdefossen is one of many waterfalls visible from the waters of Norway's world-famous Geirangerfjorden. The often overlooked falls are situated near the head of the fjord and can be partially seen from the town of Geiranger at the fjord's head. The falls drop for a total of around 385 meters (1265 feet), split between a sheer plunge of approximately 210 meters (690 feet) and then about 175 meters (575 feet) worth of steep cascades. Below the plunging section of the falls, the small stream gets lost amid the thick brush and is more difficult to see, but parts of the cascading section of the falls can be seen from certain angles from boats on Geirangerfjorden.
