Name of Waterfall

Låtefossen

Description

Låtefossen can be seen adjacent to Route 13, about 3.4km north of the junction with the E134 or about 13km south of Odda. The falls are impossible to miss, and also feature a small tourist hut with souvenirs and restrooms.Låtefossen is among Norway’s most popular and most visited waterfalls simply by proxy of nearly spraying onto the primary road between Odda and Haugesund. The river Austdøla pools in a moderate lake immediately above the falls and creates two outlets as it finds its way into the Oddadalen. The twin channels of the river both cascade in twisting courses, seemingly mirroring each other, falling a total of 142 meters (565 feet) before funneling under the wonderfully rustic six-arched bridge along Route 13. Due to the narrow confines of the Oddadalen and the close proximity of the road to the falls, only a small part of it can be easily seen from below, and due to the heavy spray which is ejected from the falls essentially year round, photographing it from below can be a challenge at best. The name of the falls is pronounced LOH-tuh-fossen.
