Deep Gibou Falls
Deep Gibou Falls
You can reach the falls by taking Hill West/West Hill Road which is off of Route 118 just west of Montgomery. This is a big loop that reemerges on Route 118 a few hundred feet west of the eastern segment, which is called Hill West Road. Take the eastern portion of the loop and drive about 5.1 miles to an intersection. Turn right onto Deep Gibou Road and drive for about 7/10 of a mile and park on the side of the road. From here, you will be on foot. Walk down the road for about 9/10 of a mile, crossing West Hill Brook on a bridge along the way. Look for obvious signs of ATV usage and turn left towards the stream. You'll wade the stream, then start uphill on the opposite side. The falls are just upstream of the shallow pool you'll wade across. The upper reaches of West Hill Brook flow from a flat meandering meadow then make a series of drops to emerge from the woods into another broad meadow. The upper tier is a short cascade, that drops into a narrow cleft which leads to the next successive horsetail drop. The water then fans out and slides over a broad sloping rock face in parallel streams to collect in a shallow rocky pool before emerging from the steep wooded ravine.
