Hidden Falls
Hidden Falls is the first of several small waterfalls along Tokul Creek as it cascades down a narrow ravine cut into the same formation which forms nearby Snoqualmie Falls. As the creek intersects the top of the underlying bedrock formation, it drops over this quaint and quite pretty 16-foot punchbowl type waterfall, surrounded by huge Big Leaf Maple trees.
Tokul Creek is a rather large tributary to the Snoqualmie River, and maintains a pretty decent flow for the majority of the year. In the winter months it moves quite a bit of water, due in large part to the presence of several small lakes, ponds, and marshes in the drainage basin which retain winter precipitation. When running high, a second segment to the falls often forms. In the summer on average the volume of the creek is reduced to about one-eighth of its winter volume, and this results in the falls changing appearance from a stout plunging type fall to a more cascade-like drop influenced by the shape of the bedrock beneath.
On our most recent visit to the falls, we noted a sign nailed to a tree a short distance from the parking area next to the bridge above the falls which indicated that there have been frequent car prowls and break-ins in the area. Be sure to take all your valuables with you, and leave nothing visible in your car which would otherwise tempt potential criminals.
