Lake Creek Falls
Lake Creek Falls can be found along Highway 36 about a mile west of the small town of Triangle Lake or approximately 26 miles east of the junction of Highways 126 and 36 in Mapleton. The signed parking area is upstream of the falls, with a trail following the road to a flight of stairs descending to the falls and fish ladders.Lake Creek Falls is a series of small waterfalls and sliding cascades occuring about half a mile below the outlet of Triangle Lake in Oregon's Coast Mountains. The falls start out as a 40 foot wide, 15 foot tall fall. The creek then bends right and slides down a long ramp terminating in a sheer 10 foot plunge. The final fall is an even longer slide that plows into a large pile of boulders. All three tiers have fish ladders bypassing them. The falls are a popular swimming destination in the summer, but are most impressive during the winter and early spring.Due to its proximity to Triangle Lake, the falls are sometimes named for the lake, but the BLM has officially recognized the series as Lake Creek Falls. The lower tier of the falls was at one time known as The Washboard.
