Lower Kalama River Falls

Description

If you so desire to visit, the falls can be seen from a pullout along the Kalama River Road approximately 8 ¼ miles east of Interstate 5. The Kalama River Road exit is well signed, about ½ mile north of the town of Kalama. The Lower Falls of the Kalama River were formerly a 7 foot cascade followed by a 15 foot cascade. In 1936, however, when the Kalama Falls Fish Hatchery was constructed, a weir dam was constructed below the falls to drive fish into a ladder. This effectively submerged the lower portion of the falls and what remain are the 7 foot upper tier and the pour-over dam. On top of that, the lack of clear views relegates this one to being filed under "don't waste your time".
