Name of Waterfall
Salamander Falls
Salamander Falls
Salamander Falls is the direct outflow of the Salamander Glacier in Glacier National Park. The Salamander Glacier is situated on a narrow ledge directly above the Grinnell Glacier and Upper Grinnell Lake, and like the Grinnell Glacier is rapidly shrinking in size. The glacier will often produce two melt-streams about 600 feet apart, both of which produce waterfalls as they fall to Upper Grinnell Lake below. Salamander Falls is recognized by the USGS as only the right-most of the two streams, but it would not be inaccurate to consider both falls to be segments of the same waterfall since the source of water is the same.
