Name of Waterfall

Scotts Mills Falls

Description

Starting out in the town of Silverton, Oregon, drive north on SR 213 for about 5 miles to Mt. Angel - Scotts Mills Road, and turn right, following the signs for Scotts Mills. Proceed 2.5 miles to Scotts Mills, and turn right onto Crooked Finger Road. About 2 blocks up Crooked Finger Road, turn into Scotts Mills Park and park near the bathrooms and walk across the grass fields to the falls. This small waterfall is located within Scotts Mills Park, in the small town of Scotts Mills. The falls are situated just below a concrete weir dam which diverts a portion of Butte Creek through a concrete lined sluice that bypasses the waterfall, likely a remnant of the original mill site. The actual waterfall is 10 feet tall, with the drop over the dam adding another 3-5 feet in height. As its below the 15 foot requirement for inclusion in this database, this waterfall would normally not be listed, but the fact that the falls have an extensive history in the town leads me to believe it likely has a name dating back many decades and thus would be included.Scotts Mills was named after a flour mill built at this waterfall. Until details can be uncovered about whether this waterfall did in fact have a name in conjunction to the mill development, it will be listed after the town.
