Snow Creek Falls

Description

Snow Creek Falls is a very well hidden waterfall located just a short distance off Highway 101 in the northeastern corner of the Olympic Peninsula. The falls drop 55 feet into a surprisingly sheer canyon just a few dozen yards away from a major National Forest Road, but the thick forest in the area hides it from view exceptionally well. Prior to seeing a terrain model for this area rendered using LiDAR data, we had no idea this waterfall even existed. The canyon immediately around the falls is quite steep - the cliffs being sheer in a few places - which makes viewing the entire waterfall difficult, if not impossible, without scrambling all the way down to the creek. We didn't have time to do this on our initial survey of the site, and had to settle for a decent enough view from a ledge near the brink of the falls; most visitors will likely opt to follow this approach as well, as getting down to the base of the falls is not nearly as straight forward.
The falls likely occur on private timberland, however as the road which passes through is a Forest Service road there should be no issues with accessing the falls.
