About This Waterfall

Take Highway 1 (the Ring Road) to the town of Hella, and drive 0.8km west from the roundabout at the gas station and turn south on to Route 25, which is signed for Þykkvabæjar. Follow Route 25 for 2.7km then turn left onto a gravel road where a sign points to Ægissiðufoss. The falls will be visible from the end of the road at the parking area.Ægissiðufoss is a small, broad waterfall along a river of moderate volume set amid farm lands in southwestern Iceland. The falls cascade 11-feet over a stepped ledge, stretching to about 190-feet in width, and bypassed on the left side with a small fish ladder. The volume of the Ytri-Rangá (River) can vary - on average - from 1400 cubic feet per second, up to about 2800 cubic feet per second depending on the season, so the falls may appear both more volumnous at times and because the stream channel below the falls is walled with solid bedrock, may be partially submerged as the river level rises.
