About This Waterfall
Pyramid Creek is a moderately small volume stream that drains from a broad basin below the north face of Pyramid Peak, one of several imposing mountains rising high above the azure colored Diablo Lake in North Cascades National Park. The stream harbors many waterfalls, though none terribly imposing, and most quite difficult to access. However a trio of small waterfalls are found in relatively close proximity to the North Cascades Highway. Apogee Falls is the middle of these three waterfalls, found at the top of a narrow, nearly mile-long ravine that Pyramid Creek descends through as it cascades down to cross under the North Cascades Highway. The falls consist of two primary drops, both plunges. The upper tier leaps 33 feet into a large pool, while the lower drops an additional 12 feet. Both upstream and down of the main falls there are sections of cascades that could be argued should be counted as part of the falls, which would push the total height of the formation to about 70 feet in all - we did not have time to survey or measure these cascades during our first survey of the area.
