About This Waterfall
Asbestos Falls is a fairly significant waterfall located along Clear Creek, itself a tributary to the Sauk River, near the town of Darrington. The falls drop 55 feet in all, first in a series of 15-foot cascades, then followed by a 40 foot drop where the creek flumes through a narrow notch in the cliff and plunges into an impressively deep pool. Because Clear Creek has a large drainage basin, its volume can swell to substantial levels during the winter and spring months. During these periods the falls can swell to a significant breadth as the creek overwhelms the narrow notch at the top of the main part of the falls. A second segment of the falls appears to form to the far left of the main part of the falls, but as it falls away from the side of the creek from which the falls are accessed, viewing it has thus far been not possible.
