Austrekrågforsen is a significant waterfall located in Sørfold just south of Rago National Park. The falls are commonly cited as falling 257 meters (843 feet), and one-meter topographic maps suggest this height is relatively accurate. The falls drop as a single veiling horsetail type fall, with some smaller cascades preceeding the main drop. A separate and presumably unnamed upper fall is found about 600 meters further upstream.
The Austrekrågelva is dammed and diverted into a hydroelectric system approximately 6 kilometers upstream from the falls. It's not entirely clear to what degree the river is diverted, but based on the aerial imagery thus far available it seems likely that the vast majority, if not the entirety, of the river is siphoned away from its natural course. There are numerous snow melt stream which flow into the valley below the dam (some of which are themselves diverted into the reservoir as well), and as such the falls do still flow - potentially heavily during the snow melt season - but there is a good chance that the falls will nearly dry out in the late summer and early autumn months. Prior to the diversion of the river, Austrekrågforsen was among the most powerful and most significant waterfalls in northern Norway.
