Big Fir Falls
From Highway 20 in Concrete, turn south on Gordon Road and follow it for a mile across the Skagit River, then bear left onto Concrete-Sauk Valley Road and continue for just under 9 miles to Finney Creek Road, which heads straight while Concrete-Sauk Valley Road bears left. Continue onto Finney Creek Road and proceed for 6-1/2 miles to where it crosses Big Fir Creek (unsigned). The falls can be seen from the road, but getting a clear view requires following the short, easy trail on the right side of the drainage down to the creek.Big Fir Creek produces a pretty but ultimately fairly insignificant waterfall just upstream from where it's crossed by Finney Creek Road. The falls drop 16-feet over a smoothed ledge in side-by-side streams of water, then accelerate another 3-feet down a small chute. There are said to be another 8-9 feet of cascades just upstream from the main falls as well, but we didn't bother investigating on our most recent survey of the creek. Given the small drainage area of Big Fir Creek, expect the impressiveness of the falls (limited as it may be) to be significantly reduced as the year progresses, with the creek potentially being reduced to a trickle by the end of July in most years.Big Fir Creek gets its name from a huge Douglas Fir tree which can be found a few hundred feet down the road from the creek.
