Big Four Falls

Description

Big Four Falls are best accessed from the Big Four Picnic Area, located about 25 miles east of Granite Falls along the Mountain Loop Highway. Follow the Ice Caves Trail for a mile to the basin below the falls for better views.Big Four Falls is the name that has been applied to a large collective of meltwater streams that skip several hundred feet off the north face of Big Four Mountain near the Big Four Ice Caves. The falls can be easily seen from the Big Four Picnic area, but can be approached closely by hiking to the Ice Caves. Though the falls are technically seasonal, the massive face of Big Four Mountain shields direct sun well and as a result, snowfields linger on the mountain pretty much all year feeding these falls (of course they'll be at their best in May and June). If you see Ice Caves in the area, exercise caution when approaching them and do not enter the caves - many people have died from ice collapsing from the ceilings.
