Blake Falls

Description

Drive south on Route 14 exactly one mile from Woodbury, Vermont. Park at the wide spot in the road and carefully pick your way down the steep bank. You'll be able to hear the falls. The modest flow of the Kingsbury Branch moves south through a dense stand of mixed softwood trees before dropping over an irregular ledge composed of the Barton River member of the Silurian era Waits River Phyllite, and a black Devonian era Limestone. The falls spread out fairly evenly and drop somewhere around 15 feet to strike a trough-like ledge and flow sideways to the next drop of about 3 feet. Below this, the water meanders through a progressively thinning stand of birch and beech trees. The falls are named for nearby Blake Hill Road.
