Boise Creek Falls

Description

Boise Creek Falls, as of (at least) 2008 is closed to all forms of public access. While most waterfalls located within the commercial tree farms on the west slopes of the Cascades are difficult to access due to public land usage restrictions, Weyerhaeuser had the foresight to construct a nice little trail leading to quaint Boise Creek Falls just outside of Enumclaw. Boise Creek flows through a placid valley before being dammed to form a pair of retention ponds of some sort - the reason for which is unknown - before skipping down a bulging 60 foot wall. The falls usually exhibit three segments, only one of which, however, is natural. The other two are the result of a penstock-like drainage of one of the upstream ponds feeding water directly to the cliff face the falls occur at. The pipe is, fortunately, well hidden from below. Unfortunately, Weyerhauser sold the White River Tree Farm to Hancock Timber Management in 2003 and the trail fell into a state of limbo. Hancock closed the nearby lumber mill shortly thereafter but still considers the site an industrial area and thus unsafe for public entry and has recently posted the access to the falls, so until a formal trail can be developed from Highway 410, this one is inaccessible to the public.
