Name of Waterfall

Boulder Creek Falls

Description

Turn off Highway 20 just west of Winthrop onto Chewuch River Road and follow it for 6.8 miles and turn right onto East Chewuch Road then left onto FSR #37 after crossing the river. Follow Road 37 for just under 2 miles, staying right at the fork after the Boulder Creek bridge, and park. The falls are hard to see from the road due to the shape of the canyon but are easily audible. Short trails lead down to the brink of the falls.Boulder Creek Falls is a small but powerful punchbowl on Boulder Creek about a mile above its mouth in the Chewuch River valley. The falls are not at all impressive, but are among the easiest in the Winthrop area to see. The pool below the falls is apparently a popular swimming hole (for good reason), and the smaller right-hand segment of the falls is rumored to function as a waterslide during optimal flows (late summer). During the spring the dozens of swamps and marshes near the headwaters of Boulder Creek stain the waters brown with tanic acid, causing the waterfall to appear as if it were located along a river of beer.
