Name of Waterfall

Brandeberry Falls

Description

From the stoplight in the center of Forks, follow Highway 101 north for 1.7 miles then turn right onto the Sitkum-Solduc Road (also signed as National Forest Road #29). Follow this road for 17.3 miles to the bridge over Brandeberry Creek (unsigned) and park adjacent. The upper tier can be seen upstream of the bridge. Look for a rough, steep boot path on the west side of the creek which scrambles downstream to the bank of the Sitkum River where the lower tier of the falls can be seen.Brandeberry Creek is a small to moderate volume tributary of the Sitkum River found just outside the northwestern corner of Olympic National Park. As the stream merges with the Sitkum it drops over a pair of small waterfalls which are bisected by a bridge along a Forest Service road. Upstream of the road the creek drops down a twisting horsetail type fall with a few logs lodged against the bedrock. As the stream passes under the bridge it cascades down a small drop in between the two main sections, then immediately as the creek enters the river below it plunges over the lower tier of the falls - both the upper and lower tier drop 22 feet each.
While the upper tier can be clearly seen from the road, the lower tier is much more scenic and the more worthy portion of the falls, however it requires a steep scramble down a rough path forged by kayakers to access the river, and is not accessible to those of more limited mobility.
