About This Waterfall

Exit the E16 at Flåm and head straight across the river, following signs pointing towards Myrdalen. The falls will be best seen across the valley about a kilometer from the E16. A trail apparently climbs to the base of the visible portion of the falls as well, which should be accessible by crossing the river about 1200m from the E16 and following the road on the opposite side of the valley until just before crossing the Brekkeelvi.Brekkefossen is a fairly prominent waterfall located near the town of Flåm at the head of Aurlandsfjorden. The falls descend a total of about 500 meters (1,640 feet) over a linear distance of perhaps 675 meters (2,200 feet). Due to the way the stream has carved into the mountainside, only a small portion of the falls are easily visible from any one location. The most prominent section of the falls is the final 125 meters (410 feet) which can be seen pouring into a narrow gorge near the bottom of the valley. The final leap is visible from the road across the valley, and can also be accessed via a trail which climbs to the bottom of the waterfall.
