About This Waterfall

California Falls is the third of the five officially named waterfalls along the Tuolumne River within the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne in Yosemite National Park. The falls drop about 120 feet in three sliding steps.Joseph Le Conte seems to be the first persone to have recognized this waterfall, naming it Stella Falls in 1900. The name California Falls actually dates to 1895 but it was originally applied to what is now known as Le Conte Falls when it was mapped and explored by R.M. Price. When names of Waterwheel and Le Conte Falls were clarified California Falls became the official name of this waterfall beginning in 1910.
