About This Waterfall
Turn off the Umpqua Highway onto Loon Lake Road 3 miles west of the bridge over the Umpqua River in the town of Scottsburg. Follow Loon Lake Road for 5 miles then bear left onto Camp Creek Road (there are no signs). Continue for another 11 miles along Camp Creek Road, then bear right at an unsigned Y-junction. After about 500 feet, bear right again into a large gravel pit area and park. Follow the sounds of the waterfall down the right-most road to a rugged and likely trashed campsite overlooking the pool below the falls, with a rough but obvious path descending down to the water. The left road leading out of the pit will go to the top of the waterfall.Camp Creek Falls is a modest but scenic waterfall which drops 31 feet in a fountain-like stairstep display along its namesake stream in the general vicinity of Loon Lake east of the town of Reedsport. The falls drop over a sandstone ledge which has been exposed in several small shelves which causes the stream to splash down subsequent steps in a shape which would make garden landscapers envious. The space between the upper and lower tiers is less than 5 linear feet, and the extreme river-right side of the waterfall is essentially a single congruous drop, however the appearance is in general very distinctly of two separate steps, and as such it will be classified as a two-stepped fall. Camp Creek is a moderately large stream at this point along its run, draining from a basin covering just over 22 square miles. Streamflow in the lower elevation coastal mountains in Oregon typically varies considerably, from very heavy flow during the rainy winter and spring months to potentially just a small volume in the late summer months (especially likely in the case of Camp Creek due to there being no standing bodies of water contributing to its flow).
