About This Waterfall
Cascade Falls are clearly seen from Highway 1 at the exit for Lake Minnewanka. Good views are had from the meadows adjacent to the Banff landing strip, just north of the Lake Minnewanka Drive exit (across the freeway from the beginning of Banff Avenue).Cascade Mountain was named for the presence of this nearly thousand foot tall shoestring waterfall skipping down the exposed cliff side. Though the stream has a very small drainage area, it appears to be at least in part a Karst stream – that is fed by waters seeping into underground channels from the mountainside above – and that helps sustain a consistent flow well into the summer (it is possible that the falls run dry by late August).
