About This Waterfall
From the town of Remote, follow Highway 42 east for 2 miles and turn left onto Upper Rock Creek Road (immediately east of a bridge over the Middle Fork Coquille River). Turn right immediately after crossing the bridge over Upper Rock Creek, still following Upper Rock Creek Road. After eight-tenths of a mile the large gravel pit area is encountered on the right, just after passing the defunct Log Pond. Pull in and circle the perimeter of the gravel pit until the falls are spotted near the very southern apex (mind the copious potholes).Cawrses Falls is a modest and fairly scenic waterfall of 46 feet in height where Hidden Creek veils over a cliff and falls directly into the swift flowing waters of Upper Rock Creek near the now defunct Cawrses Log Pond. The falls descend in two distinct steps, with the lower drop accounting for the majority of the overall height. The lower tier of the falls takes on a distinct veiling shape during periods of heavier flow, but becomes a narrower, more uniform shape as the flow of the creek decreases as the season progresses. Also of note nearby is a 3-5 foot tall but 23-30 foot wide waterfall along Upper Rock Creek - though not big enough to qualify for inclusion in the database on its own. Hidden Creek is a small stream which is highly likely to exhibit seasonal behavior, draining a basin which covers only about three-quarters of a square mile. When surveyed in mid-May of 2019 the flow in the falls was less than initially anticipated though still enough that the falls presented well. We would expect to see the flow diminished greatly by the end of June and likely dry by the end of July without sustained precipitation to keep it flowing.
