About This Waterfall
Chitistone Falls is a large, two-stepped fall found deep in the wilderness of Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Preserve. The falls are said to drop about 300 feet in all with the larger of the two drops falling perhaps 175 feet, though topographic maps are not accurate enough to say whether this is a conclusive height figure. Access to the falls on foot involves hiking The Goat Trail (effectively a cross-country route) northeast towards Chitistone Pass from the Glacier Creek landing strip. It may be possible to hike to the falls without flying in to the landing strip as well, but this may require several additional large river fords. Consult with the National Park Service or local outfitters before attempting to visit the falls on foot.
