Cinderella Cascade

Description

Cinderella Cascade is the name applied to the smallest of five tiny cascading streams which can be seen dropping into the Genesee River Gorge in the vicinity of the Great Bend within Letchworth State Park. The cascades are said to drop about 500 feet into the gorge, but this figure accounts for the total elevation change between the rim of the canyon and the river. In reality we aren't sure that a legitimate waterfall even exists at this location, low streamflow volume aside. There appears to be little to no supporting evidence that any actual cliffs occur along its run down the side of the canyon, instead tumbling down steep talus the entire way. The stream that this feature occurs along drains from an exceedingly small area - somewhere between 6 and 9 acres in size, if that - and in turn its flow is entirely dependent on heavy precipitation or immediate snow melt. Because of the small size of the stream, it seems to lack enough erosive capability to have actually exposed its channel to bedrock, which reinforces the idea that there may not be any legitimate fall seen here. Couple this with the fact that this waterfall might only flow for a few days out of the whole year, we feel it's most appropriate to mark it as a Disqualified feature until and unless further evidence can establish that it could in fact be considered a legitimate waterfall.
