About This Waterfall

Drive east from Roseburg to the small town of Glide, and turn south on the signed Little River Road. Follow the Little River Road for 25.8 miles to the signed Lake-in-the-Woods campground. About 500 feet past the campground turn right and proceed another 500 feet to the trailhead (one can also start from Lake in the Woods Campground if desired). The limited trailside view of the falls is encountered just over 1 mile from the trailhead. Choose the route to the bottom of the falls as you see fit (keep both hands free and its not too difficult). This is (apparently) the uppermost of the series of waterfalls along Hemlock Creek as it crashes towards the Little River. The falls veil about 40 feet over a freakishly uniform ledge, forming an almost perfectly rectangular waterfall. The falls are technically visible from the Hemlock Creek Trail, but the view from the trail is very limited, overlooks the falls from the side and is blocked by several trees. In order to see the falls well, one must scramble down the steep slope to the canyon floor, then dodge mossy boulders and hoards of bugs to reach the base of the falls for clear views. This waterfall has gone by the generic title of Upper Hemlock Falls in the recent past. The BLM and USGS have recently completed the process to have the feature officially named Clover Falls after nearby Clover Butte.
