About This Waterfall
The falls are visible from a large turnout on the west side of the Icefields Parkway 26 kilometers north of Saskatchewan Crossing and the David Thompson Highway. Look up the steep hillside from the pullout to partial views of the falls. Scrambling upstream may reveal better views.Coleman Falls is a largely obscured waterfall found adjacent to the Icefields Parkway near the Alexandra River trailhead in Banff National Park. The unnamed outlet stream issuing from Coleman Lake drops approximately 2000 vertical feet between the lake and the highway, presumably over multiple waterfalls. This appears to be the only one visible with ease. The visible portion of the falls stand perhaps 200-250 feet tall, dropping down a twisting chute in the bedrock. Topographic maps suggest this part of the falls may stand over 500 feet tall in all, but a significant amount of foreshortening limits vistas from the road. Climbing up the slope to get closer to the falls is probably possible, but strenuous.
