Name of Waterfall

Crater Creek Falls

Description

The falls can be seen from North Fork County Road, approximately 4 3/4 miles north of North Bend. At the 4.7 mile marker there is a yellow gate marking the beginning of the Hancock land - the falls can be best seen from about 300 feet prior to the gate up to about 500 feet past the gate.Crater Creek Falls is the tallest of a multitude of waterfalls that cascade off the west side of Mount Si and what has become known as the Moon Wall as they flow towards the canyon of the North Fork Snoqualmie River. The falls of Crater Creek is the only publicly visible waterfall in the area, the rest can only be seen from roads on land managed by Hancock Timber. Fed by tiny Crater Lake, the falls plummet down a crack on the north side of Mount Si for about 600 feet, before cascading down a steep gully for almost a thousand feet further. It was at one time possible to get close to the base of the falls via an abandoned road (some of which can still be followed), but recent access issues have left the possibility of getting close in question. The falls only flows with the wet season, Crater Creek losing its consistency when the level of Crater Lake drops and dries out in the summer.
