Deadline Falls

Description

Deadline Falls is visible from several locations along SR 138 east of Roseburg. It can be seen from Highway 138 near the Swiftwater Bridge, from on the Rock Creek bridge, the exposed rocks below the falls and from the Deadline Falls viewpoint along the North Umpqua trail. The falls are located at the 22 mile marker on Highway 138 (that's 22 miles from Roseburg), or around 2 mile east of Idleyld Park. There is a turnout on the river side of the road, which provides ease access to the craggy riverbed. To reach the viewpoint off the North Umpqua trail, cross the Swiftwater bridge, just before the falls and park at the North Umpqua Trail parking area. Walk down the trail for 1/4 mile to a viewpoint.Deadline Falls is the largest of several small cascades where the North Umpqua River cascades over and through small outcrops of basalt riverbed. The falls are not very impressive at all, and wouldn't usually be an attraction in this neck of the woods, except for the high likelihood of seeing large Salmon leaping the falls as they migrate upstream. From May to October you'll most likely see fish jumping and splashing around in the pools below the falls.
