About This Waterfall
Dravladalsfossen is located immediately below the dam which impounds Dravladalsvatnet at the north end of the Folgefonna Ice Cap. Based on topographic data, the falls appear to consist of two distinct parts - a nearly free falling drop of about 60 meters (200 feet), followed by a section of cascades which step down another 40 meters (130 feet) or so. The Flatabøelvi is entirely diverted into the hydroelectric system upstream of the falls, effectively rendering the falls dry. The overflow channel from the dam immediately above the falls does empty directly to the top of the falls however, so should the reservoirs above the falls ever exceed their capacity (which would likely only happen during years with significantly above average winter snow fall), the falls may flow again for a short period.
