Name of Waterfall

Dutchman Falls

Description

Dutchman Falls are located approximately 1.2 miles up the Larch Mountain Trail from the Multnomah Falls Lodge. The first of the three falls are seen about 300 feet up the trail from the second bridge across Multnomah Creek (the first being the bridge spanning Multnomah Falls). The second and third falls are both seen within another 300 feet.Between Multnomah Falls and Wiesendanger Falls, Multnomah Creek makes several small dashes down a series of wide basalt ledges. Three of these are spaced close enough together that grouping them into one entry is feasible. The first drop is a 10 foot tall, 20 foot wide block shaped waterfall that can only be seen from the side. The second and largest is a 15 foot tall, 20 foot wide non-vertical block - the most easily seen of the three. The last is an 8 foot slide which is partially blocked from view by some bushes. The falls aren't officially named, but this name, stemming from nearby Dutchman's Tunnel - a precarious basalt overhang just upstream along the trail - has been applied for over15 years, first seen in A Waterfall Lover's Guide to the Pacific Northwest.
