Eaton Falls

Eaton Falls is a broad cascade along Garfield Stream that slides down a long, broad exposure of smooth bedrock. The upper part of the falls is a smooth slide type formation, and the lower half sees the water tumble down more defined ledges in a stair-step formation. There is no developed access to this waterfall, but the abandoned Gale River Trail passes near the falls.The only known name associated with this waterfall dates back to an 1880 reference in a local newspaper which referred to it as Eaton Falls. Whether this was simply a casual colloquialism used in the article is not known, but it holds precedent by virtue of age at this point. The falls have been casually referenced as Staircase Falls more recently by local adventurous hikers who have trekked upstream to the long similarly forgotten Hawthorne Falls.
