About This Waterfall
Cachoeira do El Dorado is a vertical, moderately high volume waterfall located in the far northern part of Brazil's Amazonas state, just south of the border with Venezuela. The falls were only recently discovered and at the time were suspected of being the tallest in Brazil. While this is likely untrue, it is possible it may be among the tallest free-falling waterfall in the country, dropping 353 meters into a canyon incised into Monte Tantalita. Very little is known about the falls and only a handful of pictures have made their way to the internet thus far so we have rather limited information. The municipality of Barcelos has plans to construct a trail system to the falls, which are currently only accessible via aircraft or a strenuous foot expedition. When the falls were first discovered and made public, they were given a working name after its watercourse. Recently the falls have been officially named Cachoeira do El Dorado.
