About This Waterfall

The falls on Crater Creek are accessed from the Green Lakes trailhead along the Cascade Lakes Highway west of Bend. Exit Highway 97 in downtown Bend at Franklin Street and turn west (signed for Mount Bachelor and the Cascade Lakes Loop). Franklin becomes Broadway as it parallels the Deschutes River, then crosses the river and becomes Galveston. Turn left on SW Century Drive which becomes the Cascade Lakes Highway. After 26 miles the Green Lakes / Soda Creek trailhead will be found on the right side of the highway. From the parking area, find the Green Lakes trail and hike in for an easy 1/3 of a mile to the creek just above the falls. Obvious but unmarked paths lead downstream to the top of the falls and shortly thereafter, the base.Fall Creek is dotted with literally dozens of small waterfalls as it flows from its origins in Green Lake and the glaciers on South Sister. Almost all of these falls, however, are under 10 feet in height and don't qualify as significant enough to be included in our data. The final fall of the creek, however, is a broad, noisy 32-foot tall set amid a forested meadow. The creek intersects the ledge at an angle such that the width of the falls appears greater than it really is from certain angles - especially during the melt season.
