Name of Waterfall

Falls Creek Falls

Description

Turn off Highway 20 just west of Winthrop onto Chewuch River Road and follow it for 11 1/2 miles to the Falls Creek campground and park. The trail starts about 300 feet north of the Falls Creek bridge and leads to the base of the falls in about 500 feet. At the base of the falls, the trail continues upstream, climbing steeply at times, to a promontory looking down on the upper falls in another 1/3 of a mile (scramble paths get closer).Falls Creek Falls is the only waterfall with developed access in the Methow Valley area, but since its a pretty good waterfall and there aren't many others around, it makes up for the fact fairly well. The falls consist of two horsetailing falls, 36 feet and 57 feet respectively, separated by about 100 linear feet of stream. The upper tier cannot be seen in conjunction with the lower but is easily accessible from the trail climbing upstream. The short path to the base of the falls is paved and fairly level, allowing those with disabilities to reach the falls with ease. An upper falls, possibly larger, are thought to occur about half a mile upstream, but the existence of which cannot be confirmed at this time.
