About This Waterfall
Located in the Olympic National Forest, off Highway 101 near Quilcene. Drive to Falls View Campground, located either 4 miles south of Quilcene or 9 miles north of Brinnon, along Highway 101. If the campground is open, head to the loop to the left, and park at the day use area on the far side of the loop. A short trail leads to viewpoints along the canyon. If the campground is closed, park at the locked gate at the entrance and just walk an additional ¼ mile to the viewpoints.Falls View Campground lies perched atop the rim of the Quilcene Canyon, living up to its name quite well. The views out over the canyon are impressive, and are accented by this seasonal, but pretty waterfall. The USGS has the stream labeled too far north on their maps, but best as I can tell, the falls stream a good 200 feet directly into the Big Quilcene River. Though the Olympics get more rain than anywhere else in the state, this waterfall is short lived, and runs close enough to dry by June that it loses appeal. In the winter, however, this is a very nice waterfall, particularly if you can catch it on a rainy day when the creek is swollen beyond its normal volume.
