Fissure Falls

Fissure Falls is an ephemeral waterfall on the south wall of Yosemite Valley, found almost directly across a deep alcove from Taft Point. The drainage area allows the falls to flow for no more than a few months during the spring melt season, usually running dry by late June, but given the small size of the basin, the falls never flow with much force and are usually difficult to see against the jagged mossy cliff which it descends.The name of this waterfall is colloquial, suggested by Chris Shaffer in his Definitive Guide book, after the nearby feature called The Fissures - a series of fractures in the outcrop which forms Taft Point that run several hundred feet straight down into the alcove between Profile Cliff and Taft Point.
