About This Waterfall
Take the North Cascades Highway to the town of Marblemount, and continue straight onto the Cascade River Road - which crosses the Skagit River immediately - where the highway makes a sharp left. Continue along the Cascade River Road for 11 miles, roughly three-quarters of a mile past the low water crossing at Sibley Creek, to a small pulloff and campsite on the left. The falls are partially visible from the road, but are easy to miss due to the thick growth of Alder saplings along the road. The lower two tiers are visible just feet from the campsite just feet from the pullout, and the upper tier is accessed after scrambling up the obvious path heading upstream for 50 feet. This small, but pretty waterfall is located in a dark grotto between Sibley and Hard Creeks, just off the Cascade River Road. Its small stream drops over a 22-foot horsetail style fall surrounded by mossy bedrock, followed by a sliding 13-foot fall and a 7-foot plunge to culminate the series. A small informal campsite can be found adjacent to the bottom of the falls, which detracts from the overall scene just a bit, but after climbing up to the base of the upper tier the falls evoke a much more isolated feeling despite being just yards from the road. After several years of rough winter storms, several trees have fallen and lodged numerous logs and large branches at the base of the upper tier of the falls (which was the prettiest of the tree), resulting in the falls being considerably less attractive now than it used to be. It will likely take decades for the stream to clean itself out.
