About This Waterfall
Glassmine Falls is a prominently marked waterfall along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Mount Mitchell. The sign at the pullout along the road claims the falls to be "over 800 feet high", however topographic data proves this to be an impossibility. The actual height of the falls is somewhere around 200 feet, and possibly up to as much as 250 feet. The falls are situated within the closed watershed used for the drinking water supply of the city of Ashville, so approaching the falls on foot is strictly prohibited - visitors have to settle for a long-distance view from across the valley.
