About This Waterfall

Those interested in visiting the site, it can be found just outside of Shelton, in the southwest corner of Puget Sound. Exit Highway 101 at West Shelton / Matlock Road (heading west), then almost immediately turn right onto West Hulbert Road. A few hundred feet after Hulbert makes a hard left a gravel road branches off to the right. Follow this for about 1/4 of a mile to the site where the falls were.Goldsborough Creek formerly possessed a small cascading waterfall of about 8 vertical feet capped by a modest dam which made it a rather unattractive setting. In 2006 the dam was removed (whether by the Washington DFW, the County or the owners of the timber land, I don't know) and by someone's flawless wisdom the falls were deemed as much of an impediment to fish migration as the dam was and so the falls were literally blown up and completely removed. All that remains is a placid series of weirs that, at most, resemble artificial rapids. That this wasn't a great waterfall to begin with shouldn't make it excusable to destroy a waterfall in the name of making it easier for fish to spawn in an area where they historically probably didn't spawn anyway.
