About This Waterfall
Gomsdalsfossen is one of the prominent waterfalls visible dropping into the famous Geirangerfjorden. The falls tumble down a multi-step series of plunges and cascades totalling approximately 260 meters in height (850 feet) in 6-7 distinct steps. The entire falls can be seen clearly from boats which tour the fjord. Previously we had listed this waterfall as standing about 420 meters in height, however upon closer examination of topographic data and aerial imagery, it's clear that while there are additional tiers further upstream along the Bringeelva, they are separated by a substantial linear distance and as such should be recorded as an entirely separate waterfall. We had previously listed this waterfall as Bringefossen, but have been informed the correct title is Gomsdalsfossen, named for the valley which it drains from rather than the feature along the fjord which we had referenced in the past.
