About This Spring

## Overview The Glover Road spring in Clyde, New York, is a public drinking spring located in Wayne County, just a short drive from the New York State Thruway. Situated in the rural countryside south of the village of Clyde, this roadside spring has long been a stop for locals and travelers looking to fill up with fresh water. The spring is easy to spot from the road — look for the red and white barn bearing a sign that reads, "Unlawful to litter. $50 fine." Visitors have historically used this as a drinking water source, and it remains a popular fill-up spot in the Finger Lakes region. Wayne County sits atop glacially deposited sediments left behind by the retreat of the Laurentide Ice Sheet thousands of years ago, and many of the area's natural springs emerge where groundwater meets layers of gravel and sand deposited during that era. The Glover Road spring is one of several such springs scattered across the drumlin fields and lowlands of central New York. ## Directions **From the NYS Thruway (Route 90):** 1. Follow the NYS Thruway to **Exit 41** (Waterloo/Clyde). 2. After exiting, make your **first left** and head **north on Route 414**. 3. Continue on Route 414 for approximately ten minutes. You will approach the village of Clyde. 4. Before entering the main area of Clyde — immediately after crossing the bridge — turn **right onto Redfield Road**. 5. Redfield Road will curve through an S-bend until it reaches a T-intersection (less than a mile). 6. Turn **right** at the T onto **Cayuga Street**. 7. After a short distance, the road splits at a Y-junction. **Continue straight**, passing the cemetery on your right. 8. Follow the road through a broad U-shaped curve for about 1–1.5 miles. 9. At the end of this arc, turn **right onto Glover Road**. 10. The spring will be on your **right side**, just a few yards from the road. There is plenty of room to pull off on the shoulder. **Landmark:** Look for the red and white barn with the "Unlawful to litter. $50 fine" sign — the spring is right there. **GPS Coordinates:** 43.059514, -76.856212 **Nearest Address:** 1341 Glover Rd, Clyde, NY 14433 ## What to Expect This is a straightforward roadside spring with easy access — no hiking or special gear required. The spring is located just a few yards off Glover Road, and there is ample space to pull your vehicle off to the side. The surrounding area is quiet, rural farmland typical of Wayne County's rolling landscape. The spring has been reported as a popular local water source, and visitors have noted that the water tastes clean and fresh. As with any natural spring, water quality can vary with weather and seasonal conditions, and the water is untreated. The setting is peaceful and unassuming — a working agricultural landscape with open fields and scattered barns. It's a convenient stop if you're traveling through the Finger Lakes region or passing along the Thruway. The spring flows year-round, though flow rates may vary seasonally.
