
About This Waterfall
In an attempt to counteract the spread of Kauri Dieback Disease, Auckland Council have closed most of the walking tracks in the Waitakere Ranges and made it an offense to go 'off track'. Kauri trees are found amongst other native trees throughout the Upper North Island, however, Kauri dieback disease is threatening Kauri trees with extinction. There is no cure for Kauri Dieback Disease, it can be spread by just a pinhead of soil contaminated by the pathogen Phytophthora agathidicida. Please find another place to explore. Old postcards use the variant spelling Nihotapu. The falls were claimed to be 300 feet in height, but photos with people adjacent to the falls debunk this. It's entirely possible that the 300 foot figure counts several drops along Nihotupu Stream, from
